Risa earned a B.A. in Education and an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado Christian University. She went on to enjoy a twenty-six year career with Jeffco Public Schools, teaching 1st through 3rd grades before retiring from the classroom in 2022. During this time, Risa added a Gifted and Talented and Early Childhood education endorsements. In addition, she spent many years with the Public Education and Business Coalition as a fellow and both a literacy and math lab host and has twenty-four hours of Orton-Gillingham training. She is currently working part-time in Jeffco as a literacy interventionist for 1st through 5th grades and a math interventionist for 1st through 3rd grades. Her favorite part of being a teacher has been watching children blossom and grow into readers and thinkers who love to learn. She enjoys yoga, baking and pampering her son’s English Bulldog, Fitzgerald.
