Karin is a lifelong learner and has a passion for nurturing her students in their explorations of real-world math, science, and technology. Karin has a master’s degree in education from the University of Northern Colorado and is a licensed K-6th grade teacher. She has two professional teaching endorsements, one to teach science through 12th grade and the other to teach middle school math through 8th grade. Karin also has a psychology degree from the University of Colorado with minors in molecular biology and English literature. Before starting her career in education she worked as a research scientist in biotechnology, providing her a strong foundation in math, science, and research methods. She spent thirteen years as a research scientist and then followed her passion for education. After graduating with her master’s degree, Karin was thrilled to work as a Gifted and Talented interventionist at Foothills Elementary school where she created high engagement real-world STEM challenges and math extensions for her students in 2nd through 5th grades. Karin then began working in middle school and taught 8th grade physical science, 7th grade biology and genetics, 7th and 8th grade earth and space science, 7th and 8th grade honors science, as well as created and taught her own science explore elective class. Karin also has teaching experience as a Destination Imagination manager and team leader and Science Olympiad head coach. Karin strives to empower kids through hands-on and student-driven learning. Having two children of her own, she understands that connecting with her students and creating safe spaces for learning opens the door for children to be successful in school.
