Dana began her journey as an elementary teacher at Colorado State University, majoring in human development and family studies as well as early childhood education. Through this program, Dana became infatuated with the human brain, the ways humans develop, and the external forces that surround every child every day. Typically, an education student chooses a focus (math, reading, science, etc.) around which to gear course selection and instruction. At CSU however, the focus is the development of humans, our brains, and the differences amongst us. Upon graduating from CSU, Dana went on to complete her Masters in education in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in differentiated instruction and a certification in English language development. She has also since extended her teaching license up to 6th grade. She has ten years teaching experience in both 1st and 3rd grades in Aurora Public Schools and Denver Public Schools. Dana specializes in applying educational strategies to children at all developmental levels to help them reach their potential. In order to do this, she places great emphasis on the relationships she builds with her students to create an environment in which it is safe to take risks and grow from challenges. In her free time, Dana enjoys spending time with her family, baking, and being outdoors.
